More info

Bocce, or also the game of bowls, is a set of sports that regulate the throwing of rigid balls made of metal or synthetic material, called bocce, with the aim of reaching or flanking a ball with a smaller diameter, called pallino or boccino. The game of bowls is widespread in all 5 continents for a total of over 110 nations.

The Italian term "bocce" was adopted by the world federation since the first regulation, later renewed, was published in a manual by Raffaele Bisteghi in 1753.

This sport is divided into different specialties, of which the most common are raffa, volo (or boule lyonnaise), pétanque and bowls (or bocce on grass). Depending on the specialty, some rules of the game and the material of the bowls change but, in the traditional test, they all have one main objective in common: to position, according to the rules of the game, your own bowl as close as possible to the pallino. Since the mid-1980s, new tests have been introduced, called alternative tests (precision shooting, progressive shooting and alternate shooting point) in which the objective changes depending on the test taken into consideration.
